Michael Doyle

Michael Doyle

Michael Collins Doyle, 75, died Aug 16th, 2021 in his home in San Antonio, Texas.

Michael, or Mike as most referred to him, was born in Moscow, Idaho on August 7th, 1946 to Harold and Martha Doyle, both of whom preceded him in death along with his sister Susan Doyle Hasbrook. He is survived by his wife Margaret Doyle; son, Brett Doyle; brothers, Greg, and Jerry Doyle; sister, Nancy Doyle; and 4 nieces and nephews.

Mike graduated from Robert E Lee high school in San Antonio in 1964. He joined the United States Army Reserve on March 12, 1966 and was called to service May 13, 1968 when he started Officer Candidate School. Mike served in the United States Army in Vietnam from November 1969 through December 1970. Throughout his service he earned numerous awards and commendations: National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Expert Rifle (M16).

He then went on to receive a Bachelor's in Business Administration in Accounting at The University of Texas at Austin and later became a Certified Public Accountant. He worked for JP Morgan for over 30 years which moved himaround the country from Houston, TX to Miami, FL to Pasadena, CA, finally settling down in Hockessin, DE where he would go on to retire.

Mike’s favorite hobby was golf, by far, but he also enjoyed the simple pleasure of being outside. Whether that involved working in the yard, grilling, or playing catch with his son. He also loved socializing with friends and neighbors at gatherings and would get a kick out of showing up wearing a cowboy hat and boots. He would carry his sense of humor over to the golf course as well by breaking out the “Texas wedge” at any given opportunity and would sprinkle in the likes of “backward tee shots” during a match with friends.

Mike was disciplined, valued hard work, and built a successful career. He also valued his friendships and family greatly and loved to make others laugh.

Mike will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends. A service will be held Thursday, Sept 9th at 2:15pm at Fort Sam Houston. In lieu of sending flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association

About two of Mike's awards in particular - the "ARCOM":  the Army Commendation Medal is awarded to any member of the Armed Forces of the United States other than General Officers who, while serving in any capacity with the Army after 6 December 1941, distinguished herself or himself by heroism, meritorious achievement, or meritorious service to include exceptional valor in the face of the enemy.

The Bronze Star Medal is a United States Armed Forces decoration awarded to members of the United States Armed Forces for either heroic chievement, heroic service, meritorious achievement, or meritorious service in a combat zone.

To the family and friends of Mike, I share your pride in him for his many accomplishments, both in peace and in war.

A happy, kind teen who always made others feel welcomed.  His life was well lived.  I remember him with fondness. I hope his family knows how much he was admired by his classmates.

I last so Michael at Ft Hood in 1968 when my Reserve unit and his were training. They had been issued M16 rifles while we still had WW2, M1's. We were in same home room for years.

Mike made me happy for he was always happy himself and extended that to others--------always had a smile showing to others. Of course, after high school when we all went our seperate ways to develope our lives outside of high school, I lost contact with him and many others.

I am so proud of his accomplishments in the Army and so proud he made it through the war to do as good in his life achivements after the war. What a hero in all ways ------from high school to the end! I am so sad to hear that we have lost another great classmate, but we shall all meet again and have THE GREAT REUNION!

Wait for us Mike, we will see you again. God bless his family and have them heal fast from their grief of their loss. My love to all, jh

I was friends with Mike in high school. We played poker together in the summer time. I also ran into him in San Antonio before I left for Vietnam. He wished me luck when I told him I was a helicopter pilot. He had already been and come back. He told me how much he appreciated us during his time spent there. I remember seeing him at one of our reunions and we exchanged some war stories together.
